Indiana’s Katherine Receveur and Wisconsin’s Oliver Hoare both won their first Big 10 Conference cross country titles Sunday, but Michigan swept the team championships for the first time since 1993 at the IU Championship Course in Bloomington.

Wisconsin was the last school to capture both championships in the same year in 2000.

RESULTS

Receveur, a junior, covered the 6-kilometer course in 20 minutes, 10.3 seconds to add a conference cross country championship to her indoor 5,000-meter title in February. Minnesota senior Madeline Strandemo was second in 20:13.5.

Michigan had seniors Jamie Morrissey (20:16.8) and Gina Sereno (20:22.2) finish third and fourth, with all five scorers in the top 17 to prevail 55-86 over Minnesota, securing a repeat for the Wolverines and the program’s 11th conference title overall.

Hoare, a sophomore who placed 40th at last year’s Big 10 final, helped Wisconsin take the top two spots with senior Joe Hardy after teammate Morgan McDonald won the championship last season.

Hoare clocked 24:09.3 on the 8-kilometer course and Hardy ran 24:13.2, but Wisconsin’s next finisher placed 20th and the Badgers – last year’s champions – took third with 88 points.

Although Michigan’s top finisher was senior Ben Flanagan in sixth (24:16.2), the Wolverines had all seven runners in the top 25 to edge Michigan State 71-82, securing their second championship in three years and the 11th overall crown.
