Lake Hamilton Pole Vaulters Thrive in Spotlight at MOC

Saturday afternoon Arkansas Meet of Champions was high flying. At Lake Hamilton High in Pearcy, the Lake Hamilton pole vaulters dominated the meet, as juniors Edie Murray and Haze Farmer swept the event.

A week after breaking the 6A record, Murray vaulted 13-feet, 1 inch to win to win the girls title. Teammate Grace Cole was third (11-3). On the boys side, Haze Farmer cleared 16-8 to take the victory.

"It was fun. But it was really hot. I wish we could have jumped higher. It was one of those days," Farmer told arkansasonline.com.

In the high jump, Sydney Lane of Rivercrest won, clearing 5-8 for her third straight MOC crown.

Taelon Peter of Russellville won the boys high jump, going 6-8.

Hamburg senior Tiana Wilson dominated the track and she broke meet records in the 100 (11.72) and 200 (24.12).

Travis McKnight of Pine Bluff swept the 100 (10.62) and 200 (21.51).

Lauren Turner of Cabot set a school record in the 800, picking up the win in 2:12.96.

Chastery Fuamatu of Gentry won the shot put (40-7) and discus (138-6).

Highlights from the Arkansas state meets a week earlier

- Murray of Lake Hamilton broke the 6A state record in the girls pole vault, soaring 13-2.25. She broke a 10-year old record held by Stephanie Foreman of Lake Hamilton.

- Johnathan Jones of Little Rock Central won the 7A high jump, clearing 6-7.

- Wilson swept the sprints at the 4A meet, winning the 100 (11.90), 200 (24.60) and 400 (58.74).

- Travis McKnight of Pine Bluff won the 6A boys 200 in 21.87 and the 100 in 11.02 seconds.

- James Milholen of Bentonville West won the 7A boys 400 meters in 48.75 seconds.
