Reina Breaks All-Time Arkansas Record In 1,600 Meters at MOC

By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

Reuben Reina of Har-Ber broke the all-time Arkansas record in the 1,600 meters when he ran 4:09.86 on Saturday at the Arkansas Meet of Champions.

The son of a University of Arkansas track legend, Reina snapped the record of 4:10.55 held by Eric Gross (Mountain Home) since 2001.

Another all-time record fell when the Vilonia quartet of Tate Smithhart, Brayden Matyja, David Adams and Jones White broke the record in the 4x800 relays with 7:52.21. That broke a 19-year-old record held by Russellville.

Smithhart also won the 800 meters final in 1:56.65, while Adams was fourth and White was sixth.

The Meet of Champions followed the AHSAA class championships 10 days prior. The Bentonville boys (159.5) and Fayetteville girls (135) won the 6A team championships.

Woyn Chatmon from Little Rock Central won the MOC 100 meters in 10.82 and finished second to Ja'keylen Haney of Parkview Arts & Science, who ran 21.56, in the 200.

Cedric Pearson of Bentonville West won the shot put (58-2.50) and discus (177-1).

Carson Lenser of Vilonia and Hunter Johnson of Lake Hamilton both cleared 16 feet in the pole vault, with Lenser taking the title on fewer misses.

Emily Robinson of Bentonville won the 800 meters in 2:15.15.

Raghan Allen of Conway won the girls 200 meters in 24.97 and finished second in the 100 in 12.27.

Takiria Brown of Jonesboro Senior won the 100 in 12.07 seconds.
