When European silver medallist Chris Thompson lines up in the 10,000m this weekend at the Payton Jordan Invitational in Stanford, he will have just one thing on his mind – the British record. It was at the same meeting last year where Thompson made his long-awaited senior breakthrough, running a PB of 27:29.61 to go to No.3 on the UK all-time list, only to be bumped down a place to No.4 when friend and long-time rival Mo Farah ran one second faster in Marseille one month later. Thompson went on to have his best season to date, winning the 10,000m silver at the European Championships and setting PBs of 7:43.34 for 3000m and 13:11.51 for 5000m.
