Where is JDL Fast Track located?

JDL Fast Track is located at 2505 Empire Drive, Winston-Salem, NC  27103.  We are located in Stratford Industrial Park, about 2 miles west of Hanes Mall.

Where can I park at JDL Fast Track?

All buses should park in the rear of the facility.  Spectator parking is located in the front and side of the building.  Additional spectator parking is available on Empire and Kimwell Drives.  Please do not park in neighboring business parking lots during the week.  Those lots may be used on weekends only.

What kind of spikes are acceptable?

Only 1/4" pyramid spikes are acceptable.  No spikes longer than 1/4" or spikes of any length with a needle shape will be allowed.  All athletes must present their spikes at the clerking booth prior to receiving their hip numbers.  Any athletes with spikes violating this rule will be able to purchase approved spikes at the concession stand. 

Where can I find the high school uniform rules?

All competitors, including unattached, must adhere to the NFHS uniform rules. For more information and visual examples of the uniform rules, please visit http://bit.ly/JDL_HS_Uniforms.  NFHS-compliant uniforms may be purchased in the concession stand.

Will JDL Fast Track close in the event of inclement weather?

JDL Fast Track will make every effort not to cancel a meet in the event of inclement weather.  In the event of snow or ice storms, JDL Fast Track will email all registered athletes and coaches as well as posting any delays or cancellations on our website, Facebook page or Twitter account.  We will make every attempt to provide as much notice as possible.  Please bear in mind that athletes competing in most of our meets come from a wide geographic region, so some may be experiencing weather that others are not.  

What are the dimensions and details about the track and field event areas?

JDL Fast Track is a flat 200m Mondo track with a 21m radius.  It has six 42" lanes on the oval and eight lanes on the straightaway.  JDL Fast Track has two pole vault runways, two long/triple jump runways and two throws/high jump areas, one of which has a full cage and netting system to contain errant throws.  

Where can I warm up for my events?

JDL Fast Track has an 8-lane warmup track behind the backstretch bleachers with its own set of hurdles and starting blocks.  This warm-up track allows athletes to warm-up indoors no matter what is taking place on the oval.  Additionally, our location in Stratford Industrial Park affords distance runners an opportunity to warm-up outside in a safe environment.

Can I bring in food and beverages from outside the facility?

Yes.  Although we have our own concession stand and on-site food vendors, we do understand the financial pressures of most teams.  As a result, we do allow teams and individuals to bring in their own food and beverages.  But we also offer the convenience of our concessions and on-site catering vendors for those that would prefer to have one less thing to worry about.

Do you have a Lost & Found area?

Suprisingly, lots of people leave things at JDL Fast Track during our season.  As of the 2015-16 season, we will now be housing all lost and found materials in our concession area.  At the end of each season, we will either discard unclaimed items or donate them to a local Goodwill store.  

How much seating do you have for spectators?

JDL Fast Track has seating for approximately 1700 spectators.  There are bleachers along the main straightaway, backstretch, as well as limited seats in the second curve and another near the throws cage.  SPECTATORS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE TRACK OR INFIELD DURING EVENTS.  We do ask that spectators and participants do not stand along the fence of the main straightaway.  We have three (3) bleacher sections near the finish line reserved exclusively for spectators.

Where can we set up a team camp during an event?

We have three bleacher sections near the finish line that are dedicated solely for spectators.  Teams may set up in other bleacher areas, but we do ask that you be respectful of spectators wishing to watch the races.  Any teams wishing to bring in tents, massage tables, etc. may set those up behind the bleachers on the main straightaway. 

Does JDL Fast Track have a locker room or shower facilities?

Unfortunately, JDL Fast Track does not have a locker room or shower facilities on-site.  

We are attending a two-day meet at JDL Fast Track.  Is there someplace where we can store our pole vault poles?

For schools attending a two-day meet, such as a college conference meet, teams may store pole vault poles in the infield overnight or we can put them in one of our fenced storage areas.  Teams assume all risks and JDL Fast Track does not assume any responsibility for poles stored at JDL Fast Track overnight.  

Does JDL Fast Track have Wi-fi for athletes and spectators?

The only Wi-fi connection that is located within JDL Fast Track is reserved for the timing system.

Are there any restaurants or hotels located nearby?

JDL Fast Track has five hotel sponsors, all within 3 miles of the facility.  Their info can be located HERE.  For dining options, JDL Fast Track will rotate Chick-Fil-A, PDQ and Firehouse Subs at the kiosk near the 60m Dash starting line.  The kiosk will be open during most hours of meets held at our facility.  For other restaurant options, there are a number of restaurants located in the Hanes Mall area with a variety of options and price points.

What types of non-track meet activities can be held at JDL Fast Track?

JDL Fast Track is a versatile facility with a little imagination.  It has served as host to many interesting events, from indoor marathons and CrossFit competitions to a fundraising dinner for 300+ people and track and field officials certification classes.  JDL Fast Track also has air conditioning for summertime events.  We are open to nearly any opportunity to utilize the facility, provided it doesn't adversely impact the track and field surfaces.

How much does it cost to rent the facility?

Please contact Craig Longhurst (336-448-1656 or [email protected]) for rates.  There is no set rate for every event, as a number of factors can impact the cost of the rental.  Those factors can include the number of hours, day of the week, time of the year, temperature requirements, number of participants, etc.  We are flexible and will make every attempt to work with organizations looking to use JDL Fast Track for their event.

Will the facility be open for memberships?

JDL Fast Track will not be open as a membership facility for open use.  We have been unable to create a profitable business model to open JDL Fast Track to "members" on a regular basis.
