Hendrikx finally rules on WOSSAA trail

High school cross-country: The North Middlesex runner finishes first, topping Stratford Central’s Mackay Wilson, who had beaten him three years running

Mackay Wilson suspected this day would come eventually.

Each of the last three years at the WOSSAA cross-country championships, the Stratford Central runner finished ahead of Aaron Hendrikx of North Middlesex. They were 1-2 as juniors in 2008, Wilson winning by nine seconds.

That year, however, Hendrikx turned the tables at OFSAA, finishing seventh, two places and 11 seconds ahead of Wilson. So when Hendrikx finally ended his WOSSAA drought with a win in the 7,050-metre senior boys’ race Thursday at Springbank Park, Wilson wasn’t surprised.

Neither was Hendrikx.
